Second day in Toronto and i think i miss home a lil’ more today. We left Thunber Bay in jubilation and only to reach Toronto in utter exhaustion from the past few days of packing and more packing. Leaving Thunder Bay was well, happy of course. Happy to be done with school and out of the small lil’ town with the brutal cold weather. Nevertheless, i will miss the laid-back lifestyle that we had and the beautiful nature setting just outside my window. Where can i find deers sneaking outside my room again ?
We landed in Toronto yesterday in the afternoon. Weather was close to perfect at 18degrees and the sky was bluer than ever, but we got a complete shock when we reach the place we are staying at cos from the outside i swear it looks like a haunted house. There is no lift in the house and we had to pull and lug our 6 huge ass (all almost overweight) luggage up to the second story where our room is. I could curse and swear the entire day but i was too tired to do that by the time we got to our room. Walked out of our estate to find dinner and ended up in some crappy diner place called Chew Chew and had pancakes and sandwiches. So much for a good Chinese dinner on our first night in Toronto ! The next day, which was this morning, we ended up waking up past 12 noon and the only plan we had for the day was to head down to downtown and hopefully it won’t disappoint us and show us why Toronto is worth our 7 days stay. Oh yes okay at this point of time i want to say something about the transportation system here. Maybe i’m too used to the awesomeness of Ezlink and the MRT back home, but really, i just dont get the whole Token system here. With each single trip you actually have to pay 3 dollals to exchange for Tokens, which is the size of a 5 cent coin. Yes, tokens as in tokens you use in the arcade. Never mind about the token. What we found weird is the sale of the season pass. We wanted to purchase the weekly pass cos after doing the math, it is much more economical for us to get a weekly one rather than buying single fares. But in the end we couldnt buy it cos it is no longer on sale for the week. The last day of purchase is Tuesday of each week. So means that if i want to buy it i will have to wait till next Monday cos the weekly pass is strictly for use from Monday to Monday. Err…. Hello, rigid ? Veird.
Downtown Toronto was much better, in the sense it was what we envisioned. Ended up having a heavy dimsum lunch and shopped at H&M and whatnots again at Eaton Centre. Hmm i must say Toronto is so much more cosmopolitan than Vancouver or Singapore. For every 10 people you meet, probably only 2 are caucasians. Okay this is just our very 2-days old observation of this place anyway. But yes, you get my point it is Super cosmo here.
Came back early today because our estate is not exactly the safest. We ended up KTV-ing via Youtube and watched 97 movie trailers. Yesh, we are going to have movie night for the next few nights in our room : ) The Blind Side, Kite Runner, The Boy In Stripe Pyjamas, Les Choristes. Okay actually i watched the last 3 before. I insisted that they watch it cos they are one of my favourite films. Heh
Time to fall asleep with my Dexter and get ready for a brand new day. Toronto can only get better, i so hope !
I dont know what to make of myself when i refused to print 30 plus over pages of Anthropology notes just because the exam was next day and i could read it off my computer screen. In the end i relied on pseudo highlighting with the help of Microsoft Words and almost burn the trackpad from all the scrolling from Page 1 to 37.
Am i being ecology friendly ? Or maybe i am plain stingy and refused to spend that additional 5 bucks on printing credits.
Whatever it is, i got my Anthro final marks back and all i can say is that i am a genius over here in Thunder Bay.
Yes, this entry is to celebrate my first ever 80 plus marks in my Uni academic life thus far. It could be my first and only opportunity to brag about such grades. I am never near that back in Boonlay NTU.
2 down, 2 more papers to go !
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the phone. Dream about me.
Broken Social Scene.
The other best part of being on exchange starts Tomorrow.
First day of exams at Lakehead starts tomorrow at 6pm. Note to self: I just need to PASS
Inserts evil laughter.
10 more days to Toronto. 50 more days to Home baby !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Friday holiday weekend was, well, not much of a holiday. The entire Thunder Bay transformed into a ghost town literally and all our plans for the weekends were brutally thwarted. Everywhere was closed. Almost as if everyone stopped working and went back home to hunt for easter eggs in their garden. It was also our last weekend before we get down to studying for our Finals which start this Saturday. I can only think of 7 letters – SPSBSJP
The only thing that is keeping me going for the next 2 weeks is leaving this place to start our world tour. Though booking our accommodations and settling our transport from places to places have been nothing but a BIG FAT BITCH, i am still excited. Cos that will also mean that i can start my Count Down to home ! But in the mean time and back to reality, there is many many things for me to do.
One, of course will be studying. My just-pass and i-on-exchange attitude for the past 12 weeks will indeed be put to test this time. My pencil box has been sitting in that corner since Week 1. Le sigh.
Two, i have to start packing all my winter barangs to ship back home. Half of my winter wear i brought over were never worn. Tmddd. And as usual, i have to face to velly expensib consequence of my over zealous style of packing cos shipping is just so mother father expensib !! I probably have to go through a series of serious dilemmas because i cannot exceed 10kg. I need He Mama, i really do.
And of course not to mention all the administrative stuff i got to settle like my transcript and whatnots. And and and we have yet to settle all our travelling accommodations and plans !! Can you hear my exclamation marks ?
Okay it’s 2am. I promise myself earlier nights from now on. Time for me to watch The Office now before i curl up like a furball under my blanket. Hope i can see the deer outside my window again.
